Plantar Rupture of Peroneus Longus Tendon Associated to Os Peroneum Fracture: A New Method of Treatment
نویسنده
چکیده
Most peroneal tendon ruptures are the result of an inversion ankle sprain. Usually tears of the peroneal tendons are partial ruptures called longitudinal tears. Partial and complete rupture of peroneus longus tendon do occur but are far less common than injuries seen in peroneus brevis. The weakest point of peroneus longus tendon is the point where it changes direction and rounds the plantar surface of the cuboid. Complete transverse rupture of the peroneus longus tendon is rare. They occur most frequently at the site of the os peroneuma small accessory bone found within the peroneus longus tendon at the lateral wall of the cuboid.

Subcutaneous Peroneus Longus Tendon Rupture Associated with OS Peroneum Fracture.
We report a rare case of subcutaneous peroneus longus tendon rupture associated with os peroneum fracture. Three dimensional computed tomographic scan was useful to understand this disorder. We treated the patient with excision of fractured os peroneum and tenodesis of the proximal stump of the ruptured peroneus longus tendon to the lateral aspect of the calcaneus. Key pointsIn order to underst...

Peroneus longus rupture with associated involvement of the os peroneum is an uncommon injury, and a small number of cases have been reported. Several mechanisms of injury have been suggested, but the most accepted theory is due to an inversion force placed on a cavovarus foot type. The sesamoid often becomes the focal point of the mechanical stresses and may fracture. Although the purpose of th...
متن کاملProgressive retraction of a fractured os peroneum suggesting repetitive injury to the peroneus longus tendon
The os peroneum is an accessory ossicle within the peroneus longus tendon. Prior reports have discussed fracture of the os peroneum with associated tears of the peroneus longus tendon. When the ossicle fractures, there can be varying degrees of retraction of the tendon, which can be diagnosed by malposition of the ossicle or the ossicle fragments. We report a case of a man with recurrent eversi...

Painful Os Peroneum Syndrome Presenting as Lateral Plantar Foot Pain
Lateral plantar foot pain can be caused by various entities, and the painful os peroneum syndrome should be considered in the differential diagnosis. Recent developments in musculoskeletal ultrasonography are very useful for initial diagnosis. We discuss a 69-year-old female who experienced lateral plantar foot pain for over one month. Through physical examination, radiography, ultrasound and m...
